A Truth About Cinderella Or If the Shoe Fits
Once upon a time there was a poor little hostage slave girl called Cinderella. She fell in love with a prince, or his castle, and he saved her with a glass shoe from all the misery in her life. And every poor little naive 7 year old girl needs to listen to this shit. Well obviously Cinderella was an old version of a gold digger. Yeah yeah you can hate on me all you want for bashing on Cinderella but if I married a guy because of his house or status, you’d all have something to say about that.
Than we have the modern version independent woman Carrie Bradshaw running around NYC in Manolo’s, desperately leaving shoes all around town hoping that some prince will find it. She is everything else but a gold digger, she has spent $40 000 on shoes, seems reasonable enough since she made the money, she can spend it on whatever she wants. But still all this talk about men?
So let’s take these two as examples, you may find it a bit banal and maybe insulting to take Cinderella and Carrie Bradshaw as examples for womanhood but they are both women widely known. So at least there is a progress, Cinderella needed a man to get her out of her shit, Carrie didn’t, she is a self-made woman. So why than this obsession with finding a prince? Being a very independent person, I am horrified by these fairy-tales that have been read to us, I shiver at the thought of saying that I would need a man to save me. And I was about to bash every single woman ever expressing that she needs a man, fictional or non-fictional, until I started to write this article. I just realized, I don’t need a guy to save me from a misery hole, I can take care of myself. I don’t need a man. I want a man. For other reasons than salvation. Why was this so hard to realize? It was either the one or the other. I think I just came out from the independent woman closet.
All this female power propaganda exposure during my maturing years has severely damage my reality view. Adidas CYD Reflex Trainer Tennis Shoe Product Review
Every year during this time, when the weather starts getting perfect for tennis, I do what I usually do every new year, and make a list of things related to tennis that I want to do. Usually, this involves getting in better shape, playing more, getting well enough to play tournaments again etc., etc. etc. This year almost all of my new year’s resolutions have been broken but I actually have started to do something that I hope will help my tennis game. I have started taking a once a week plyometric and core training class in order to try and become more explosive on the court. Since I do work at All About Tennis, it is only natural that I would have to go and get some new shoes in order to help me attain this goal, the Adidas CYD Reflex Trainer!
The CYD Reflex Trainer is a new shoe from Adidas created in conjunction with Andre Agassi, and Agassi’s former trainer, Gil Reyes. The concept and purpose behind the shoe, is that Andre wanted a shoe that could comfortably transition from the court to the gym and back. To fulfill his request, Adidas designed him a shoe that is basically a training shoe with a hard rubber sole created for the tennis court.
When you first pick up the Adidas CYD Reflex, most people will find that the shoe is extremely light weight. This is due in large part to the upper part of the shoe which is made almost entirely of mesh. The mesh make up of this shoe is one that will work well with our Arizona heat as it will help the shoe to breathe well in those tough summer months. The upper portion of the shoe also features Adidas’s Speedcut which is essentially strategically placed plastic pieces to help stabilize and support your foot during side to side movement. There is also a strap across the front portion of the shoe that helps you cinch up the CYD Reflex and get a comfortable supportive fit.
As I stated earlier, the CYD Reflex has a bottom that was designed for the tennis court. This consists of a large portion of herringbone pattern tread coupled with flat tough areas of Adidas’s Adiwear rubber for durability. Running throughout the middle of the shoe is the Adidas Torsion bar which adds stability and rigidity to the shoe. As far as the fit of the shoe goes, I find it to be very true to size. I have read some reviews where testers felt that perhaps it was a half size large, but I will leave it up to personal preference. The shoe has a medium to medium wide fit with a form fitting feel and good room in the toe box.
In the two months that I have been wearing these shoes, I have used them for a variety of tasks. First and foremost, they have been used for my Wednesday night plyometric and core-training class. Since this class is performed on a tennis court, these shoes are well suited to the surface and I actually prefer wearing them to my regular tennis shoes (Adidas CC Genius II) because they are lighter and more breathable. I have also used these shoes for light hitting after my workouts where we play predominantly rally games.
While the shoes seemed to hold up just fine, I prefer something with a little more support up top to keep me from moving around. These shoes also are well suited from going to the tennis court to the pavement as I have gone out jogging in them several times. One thing you might want to consider doing (if you do wind up using them to jog) is putting in some after market insoles. While I use the stock ones that came with the shoes, I typically prefer a firmer feeling shoe without a ton of cushion. The CYD Reflex definitely falls into this category.
One attribute of this shoe that I feel has possibly been overlooked is its use as a clay court tennis shoe. While I prefer something a little more rigid on hard courts, I believe that the CYD Reflex would be well suited for clay courts. The bottom of the shoe has a wide herringbone pattern which is typically easy to knock clay out of, and the limited durability of the sole shouldn’t be a problem for clay courters.

I must have been naughty in my childhood. On a rainy day I would remove my shoes and place them like a boat in the dirty running waters of the rain.The wet leather shoe would open its mouth and it was time to take it to the cobbler.A few clubs with the ball peen hammer, and a few stitches, the shoes would be chiseled back to shape. The shoes would be polished and I would lace them back to my feet. My father trusted the authority of Ram Prasad on shoes. The cobbler could only decide when I could have a new pair. My visits to the shoe doctor increased as my shoe got older.
In 1994 I made my first visit to Dubai. For a while, my leather shoes stood the test of time and then it was time to see a cobbler. The shoe sole had given way. The shoe repairer looked at my vintage shoes with clinical eyes and spelled his fees. My eyes popped out with shock and despair. Ram Prasad would have repaired my shoes at a shoe string budget. I never repaired them thereafter; they stayed with me as my Indian pride.

My first visit to the CN tower of Toronto and the worlds tallest tower- Burj Khalifa, are some of the other noteworthy mile stones of my shoe travel. Shoes are not gender biased. My wife picked up as many as 20 pairs from the factory outlet near Niagara Falls. Some serious buying I thought. My collection today has shoes for all occasion, from sports to casual, from formal to signature brands. Shoes are making their presence felt. Occasionally I rub them with some shoe shine and keep them parked with pride. With time and use I would outgrow them and dump them for new ones.
In 2007 I travelled back to India. I wanted my shoes to take a maintenance dressing with the tools of Ram Prasad, the cobbler. It may seem strange that golfers with diabetes – a condition related to blood sugar and insulin levels – need special shoes to combat the disease’s effects.
